“I just cant get over the way you’ve captured every single smiling face, every moment that I didn’t even remember happening and every nuance of light and love in just the most beautiful, thoughtful, artistic way. This is why we asked you to photograph our West Brewery winter wedding and the fact that you are pretty much the most wonderful people just made it even better”

Megads if you are planning a West Brewery winter wedding, or just a wedding in general then this blog is for you. Steph + Christy nailed the most joyful day and are here to tell YOU how to get the most out of your own plans :)

“True to form, wedding planning was a glorious combo of ‘Aaah yes, wonderful, this is well easy and we should be wedding planners for real after this’ and ‘What?! That’s a thing? No-one told me that!”

We truly believe that when it comes to picking your own wedding suppliers that it’s not enough to pick people solely based on their work – it’s just as important to click with your suppliers. After all, some of them are going to be with you all day (like us, and your videographer) and some of them are providing THE single most important aspect of your day – your ceremony! We can’t think of anything worse than having to spend your wedding day with someone who you don’t gel with…Steph + Christy felt the same about their wedding A-Team!

“Our best advice?

– Book vendors who are A) great at their jobs but also B) that you like as people. They’ll lead you on a wedding planning journey and make the day so fun. Invaluable.

– Let the ‘hosting’ fear go: You’re providing your guests with food, entertainment and giving them a reason to lift a glass. If they cant have a great time then it’s on them, not you. Happily, we felt nothing but love on the day but I had serious wedding nightmares in the run up in which I forgot to order food and everyone left early”

Can we all just collectively sigh over Steph’s bespoke velvet wedding dress? She designed it herself, and had it made by the wonderful Christine O’Kennedy. Le sigh. Steph, you were so strokable pahahahah!

“Everyone says that the day flies by so quickly but honestly, I felt so present and in the moment all day. I vividly remember standing behind the door with my closest family and bridesmaids waiting to walk down the aisle, and when the music started it wasn’t the right song. I was so eager to just get to Christy already that I was like ‘nah, don’t care. Let’s get the show on the road!’ and my heart was pumping with nerves and excitement. I’ll remember that giddy false start as one of the most emotionally charged moments of my life.”

Shoutout to Steph’s brother and niece for the most flamboyant bridal party entrance :D

“We laughed through the whole ceremony (may I recommend David Smith the Humanist? He was ace), didn’t feel the cold when we took our couples photos, danced till I HAD to change into fluffy slippers (Steph), ate enough pork pie cake to sink a battleship (Christy) and it ALL still feels like yesterday.”

“When we finally get round to putting your incredible photos on our walls (the house is nearly ready for us to move into btw so it’ll be soon!) The first one I’ll be framing is a black and white action shot taken just after we were married and walking back down the aisle – it’s a happy riot of fairy lights, those exited just married grins and my amazing bouquet by Whitehouse Flowers. What a moment!”

We were hootin’ and hollerin’ when professional singer Steph got up to jam with her pals – it was outrageous man, so good!

Steph + Christy made sure to enjoy the whole process of being engaged and planning a wedding, and very importantly – made sure the day was truly them as a couple, and not someone elses idea of what a wedding should be;

“We loved how celebratory being engaged was – there were so many occasions to celebrate and toast with bubbles/any other beverage and many, many appointments in which to tick off wedding tasks that also doubled up as occasions to spend time with family and pals. We really hadn’t expected how much the people we loved would invest themselves in our plans, which was incredible….and sometimes not so incredible: There were offers of help and interested conversations that humbled us deeply and then there were those who had very set ideas on what we should or shouldn’t have/do at our wedding. Ultimately though, a little bit of compromise and a lot of ‘this is OUR day and damned if we won’t have drinking games, a silent disco and space hoppers if we want them.’. It ended up perfect for us AND our peoples.”

“How to sum up our day? Full of love, friends, food, fairy lights and festive joy. It was the HAPPIEST.”
